EMISSIONS REDUCTION STRATEGY OF OSAI GROUP

Careful management of energy resources is the first step towards progressive decarbonisation. Improving our environmental performance is the next goal.
By improving the efficiency of our production processes, reducing consumption and promoting the use of renewable energy sources, we can have a significant impact on our greenhouse gas emissions and help combat climate change.

With this in mind, we have set ourselves the goal of defining an emissions reduction path for 2024 that will enable us to achieve our short-term (2030) target of reducing our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 42% compared to 2022. We intend to do this according to the process defined by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), i.e. in line with what the latest climate science suggests is necessary to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement, namely to limit global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, with a maximum increase of below 2°C.

Quantifying and reporting our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is the first step in defining appropriate mitigation strategies and actions. That’s why we track this annually through our sustainability reporting, quantifying our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions and making a preliminary assessment of certain Scope 3 emission categories. Based on internal deliberations and our 2030 emissions reduction target, we have decided to commit to all three emission areas.

As there can be no decarbonisation without a process that sets out a conversion path to reduce CO₂ emissions, the actions envisaged in our strategy, the data collected and the results obtained are set out below in the Group Decarbonisation Plan, including the projection of emissions reductions.

ABOUT

Mirella Ferrero, CEO of OSAI Automation Systems S.p.A. Società Benefit commented on:

“In 2023 we launched a formal path for the reduction of the Company’s CO2 emissions, going on to make an inventory of emissions according to the GHG Protocol and, subsequently, going on to establish a “near term” goal of reducing CO2 emissions to be achieved by 2030.

We are extremely pleased to record a reduction of -11% compared to the base year 2022 already at the end of 2023.”

Projections of Scope 1 and Scope 2 Emissions
Strategy for the progressive decarbonisation of OSAI

1. Adoption of a car policy oriented towards the gradual abandonment of endothermic company cars in favour of full electric cars.

2. 100% electricity from renewable sources, thanks to the coverage of Guarantees of Origin (GO) for the fraction of electricity purchased.

3. Reduction of data uncertainty for the calculation of Scope 1 and 3 emissions through continuous improvement of data collection on purchased materials (emissions inventory based on material weights instead of invoiced amounts).

4. Adherence to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and validation of the Near Term Target on Scope 1 and 2.

Focus Scope 3 Emissions (2022)
